History:
Jubilation Lee's parent were prosperous Chinese immigrants.
As a result, Jubilee led a fairly charmed childhood, attending an exclusive
school and becoming a talented gymnast. One weekend her
parents
lost all their money in a stock market crash. On the same weekend,
her parents were also mistaken for their neighbours, and killed by hit
men.
Without money
or a home, Jubilee was sent to Juvenile Hall, where she learned to defend
herself and developed a rebellious attitude to authority. She was
arranged to be moved to another orphanage, and fearing that she would eventually
be sent to live wit her only relatives (who were in Communist China) she
ran away.
Initially she
got by as a petty thief, stealing what she needed to survive. She
was eventually trapped by mall security, and in her panic and fear, manifested
her mutant powers for the first time. Energy shot from her hands,
blinding the guards and allowing her to make her escape. Jubilee
then began to earn a living by using her "fireworks" to entertain crowds
in the mall.
Mall security
contacted the novice mutant hunters the M Squad in an attempt to capture
Jubilee. Several members of the X-Men (Storm, Rogue, Dazzler and
Psylocke) were in the mall that day, and followed M Squad in their attempts
to capture Jubilee. Jubilee was fascinated by these women, and followed
them until they exited through a teleportation portal made by Gateway.
Just before the portal closed, Jubilee jumped through and found herself
before Gateway. He welcomed her, although he had never spoken before,
and led her to a tunnel where the Reavers (a band of criminal cyborgs)
had kept their bounty. He pushed Jubilee into it, and she made a
home for herself there.
Although she
wanted to make herself known to the X-Men, she did not fully trust anyone
yet, so she watched them from her hiding place.
She finally emerged
after the X-Men had left the base, and the Reavers had returned.
Wolverine had been captured and crucified by the Reavers, and after freeing
himself, Jubilee helped him to escape. The two
accompanied
each other through Asia in the following months, where Wolverine became
something of a father figure to Jubilee.
Jubilee and Professor
X met when they were both captured by the Warskrulls. After beng
rescued by the X-Men, she became a full member of the team. She often
accompanied Wolverine on his solo missions.
After the defeat
of the Phalanx race by the X-Men, Xavier decided to create a new team for
the next generation of mutants. Husk, M, Synch and Skin became the
founding members of Generation X. Jubilee was also assigned to this
team as she was same age. Jubilee was upset by this, seeing it as
a demotion.
However, Jubilee
quickly slotted into the team, and has come to love and trust the members
of her new team as if they were her family.
